To be honest, only Google really knows how you get to the top of a search page. But we do know a few things that help Google to like your website more and give your site more of a chance to be at the top of a particular search.
Making changes to your web pages so Google puts your site near the top is called “Search Engine Optimization” (SEO). The thing to remember is that Google wants to find your site if you are offering something Google thinks its customers want to find. Google’s main goal in life is to have the one thing its customer is looking for near the top of the page when that customer enters a search term. Google never wants to offer its customer a junk site.
So Google tries to figure out which sites offer real value and which sites are junky. One way it does this is to look at the site itself. Is it organized logically? Is it mobile friendly (also called “mobile responsive.” )? Is it helpful to disabled people using the internet (called “accessibility”)? Prickly Pear Solutions always makes sure your website is Google friendly. All our websites are mobile responsive and accessible. They all have site maps. They all have logical navigation.
The last thing Google looks at are the keywords it finds to see what your site is about. As you can imagine, if people enter just one or two words such as “hair salon,” there are going to be a lot of results. But if a searcher enters what is a called a “long tail search,” that is a search with a lot of words, then if your site matches most of the words, you are more likely to be near the top. We at Prickly Pear Solutions make sure that the keywords in your site are relevant to your business and highlight the things that people are looking for when they are looking for you.
